May's Creative Challenge - Journaling

Hello, and welcome to May's challenge, with a brand NEW prize!
Six weeks into lockdown, and we are noticing lots of creative and crafty creations filling our online world. We hope this will inspire you to join us , and show us your creations.
This month and for the next two months, we are giving YOU an opportunity to join our Creative Team for a month, and get to use The Artistic Stamper stamps, and be posted on this blog, and on social media. Come and create and be in it to win it!

This month the theme is Journaling and can be interpreted any way you like, as long as it has rubber stamps on it.

To join in with this challenge (we are limiting the challenge entries to 3 per person), is simple; all we would like you to do is, make a piece of artwork, making sure that you include the theme and some rubber stamping. Pop back here to link up using the Inklinkz at the bottom of this post, so that we can see what you've made and then, leave us a comment to let us know you have joined in with the challenge.

We will pick a winner early next month from the entries, so get your thinking caps on, bring out your inks and stamps, and join in!

I have made this little journal to put all my memories and thoughts of the past six weeks of lockdown, and the coming months until we get back to some kind of normality.

I have made this journal page to thank
the people who work outside risking their lives while we are locked-down. I have made the background with gel plate printings of the Artifacts - Thank you Text stamp, then I used The Splats & Swirl Mask. I finished the background using the Thank you stamp from Grungy Greetings #2 A6 that I enhanced with a white pen.
Then I drew the woman with the mask and wrote Thank You on it.

Hi everyone! Angie here with a page from my art journal for you.

For this page I created a masterboard using Amsterdam paints. I added some stencilling and stamping, then used the large flower stencil and black Sharpie pen to draw the flower. After that I painted the rest of the page with black acrylic paint.

I used the Artistic Stamper Tracy Scott Background 8 stamp, white embossing powder and a versamark ink pad on black card and cut out some of the circles, which you can see dotted around the page.

I also used a quote from the Quotes & Sayings 1 by Debs Smith stamp set for the quote at the bottom of the pages (this time with gold embossing powder).

Lastly I spent a happy few hours doodling on the page with a white Posca pen and then added some white splatter for good measure!

ITS FUN TO CREATE! By Debs

Hi All

Debs here, Firstly i would like to thank Jennie for giving me the great honour of being on The Artistic Stamper Design Team, Alison will be a hard act to follow!

This months challenge is Journaling, I use my journal for just creating extra big pieces of art, or trying out paints, inks etc before i use them on smaller projects like cards or tags.  As I have just picked up my new fossilized amber distress inks, paints etc, well lets just say after seeing Jennies tag last week  I thought they would make a great choice to start my first ever DT post!  Having seen the new swirl stencil used to great effect everywhere i had that to try that out as well and as it says on the page.  Its Fun to Create!

I first sprayed the blank pages with the Fossilized (I really want to put an 's' in there) Amber distress stain spray and then spritzed quite lightly with water, dried and then repeated until I had a reasonably full coverage.  I have to say the colour on the lids of this new colour do not really do it justice, It goes on looking quite dark and dull and dries to a beautiful bright yellow.  Using the swirl stencil and just choosing random parts of it lightly sprayed with Abandoned Coral (yes really!!).  After that was dry I used the petal stencil and sprayed it with some more Amber.

The birds and butterflies were all stamped onto a piece of card and coloured using a water brush and the other three new distress ink pens.  The best way to do this is to scribble a bit of distress pen onto your craft mat or a stamping block and pick up with the water brush and just paint on some of the darker areas were applied by putting the pen straight onto the paper and then pulling out with the water brush.

The letters are all from the A4 words stencil.  I made up the words using the letters available the "Its" "To" and the "n" in fun are all taken from "inspiration"! I used the stencil as a template and drew around each letter with a black micro pen and then coloured them in using the same colours as before.  I added some lines in black to make stripes as i had on the border.

The border was done by hand drawing round a wavy shape and then adding in the stripes.  I forgot that adding blue to yellow would make green, lol ,as it was all done with the same four colours but it does make the page pop.  I also drew around each swirl in white pen which really makes the swirls stand out nicely, and also did the same thing on some of the petals.

My Journal by Craftytrog

Hello Stampers! We've had a few journal pages lately, so today I'm sharing how I decorated the cover of my very first journal, that I started at the beginning of the year. I was inspired by a gel medium resist technique that Dina Wakley shared in her book, Art Journal Freedom, which you can buy from The Artistic Stamper HERE.

To begin, I cut two pieces of Claudine Hellmuth sticky back canvas, to fit the front & back of my journal. I peeled off the backing paper, & stuck the canvas to a Craft Sheet, then used the gel medium resist technique from Dina's book, Art Journal Freedom, with one of  Andy Skinner's new stencils. When the Gel Medium was completely dry, I spritzed the canvas with water, before adding Dylusion Spray inks in London Blue, Calypso Teal & Squeezed Orange. Whilst the inks were still wet, I blotted them in my journal, to create a colourful background for a new page. I hate to waste good ink, & I love this background!

When the inks on the canvas were dry, I stamped the Ink Blot background, using Spiced Marmalade & Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks. I attached the canvas pieces to the front & back of my journal, then used my finger to smear black Studio Paint around the edges.

Next, I stamped Neil Walker's Kiki on some cream card, cut her out, & inked around the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I smooshed some Picked Raspberry Distress Ink on my Craft Sheet, & used a water brush to colour Kiki's lips & gloves.

Next, I stamped my book title on a small kraft luggage tag, using stamps from Scrabble & Tags, Journaling Words 4, & Katy Fox's Numerical Plate. I used the Picked Raspberry Distress Ink to add some colour, then inked the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I layered the tag over a torn piece of page from an old London A to Z, and attached both to the canvas background on the front of my journal. I then attached Kiki over-lapping the tag.

I randomly stamped the number column from Katy Fox's Numerical Plate with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, then I finished off my journal cover by adding some black & white Studio paint accents, using an old credit card & a couple of small lids.

Kathryn Wheel Project, by Marjie Kemper

I'm very excited to be guesting here at The Artistic Stamper this month... thanks so much to Jennie and Emma for the invitation!

I chose Kat's Creations house stamps as the focus for my August calendar page.  These funky house stamps are available in several different sizes and combinations ~ I used the set called Our House A6. I stamped the houses repeatedly on manila cardstock and cut and colored them before adhering to the page. I also cut some of the stamped images apart and regrouped them so my little town would have some variety in the way the buildings are positioned.  They are all colored with Ranger Distress Markers and edged with black soot Distress Ink.

For the background, I sprayed my large watercolor paper with Dylusions Ink Sprays (lemon zest, pure sunshine, and postbox red), spritzed with water, and let all the colors run a bit.  I then stamped and stenciled using loads of Crafters' Workshop stencils (mini circle explosion, large circles, chicken wire, punchinella, mini harlequin, chevron) and Distress Inks (barn door, spiced marmalade, wild honey, mustard seed, gathered twigs and black soot).  

The background stamps are a mix of Tim Holtz's (Ultimate Grunge), this bubble border stamp, the numbers stamp from the Family Values set, and a few unmarked ones from my stash.  The banner is by Dyan Reaveley, stamped on manila and colored with her Dylusions ink sprays.  I used a square punch for my dates and wrote August spanning the width of the page. 

My date format is irregular but that's been a great part of the fun of participating in the Kathryn Wheel project... seeing how many ways one really can make a calendar page.
